Comcast Launches $3 Million Grant Program to Support King County Small Businesses

Comcast has announced a $3 million grant program targeting small businesses in King County, offering 100 local entrepreneurs comprehensive support through the Comcast RISE initiative. The program will provide recipients with a robust package of resources designed to address critical challenges facing small businesses in the current economic landscape.

Each selected business will receive a multifaceted grant package valued at approximately $30,000, which includes a $5,000 monetary grant, technology upgrades, creative production services, marketing consultation, and educational resources. The program directly responds to mounting economic pressures, particularly inflation, which recent U.S. Chamber of Commerce data indicates is a top concern for 58% of small business owners.

Mayor Bruce Harrell emphasized the program's significance, noting that small businesses are fundamental to Seattle's economic and community fabric. The initiative aligns with broader municipal efforts to support local entrepreneurship and economic recovery in the wake of pandemic-related challenges.

Rodrigo Lopez, Comcast's Region Senior Vice President for the Pacific Northwest, highlighted the program's strategic approach to supporting small businesses during uncertain economic times. By providing comprehensive support beyond traditional financial assistance, Comcast RISE aims to enhance business resilience and operational capabilities.

Small business owners in King County can apply for the program between May 1-31, with grant recipients to be announced in August. Local organizations such as the Bellevue Chamber, Greater Seattle Business Association, and Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce will provide informational support and assistance throughout the application process.

This initiative is part of Comcast's broader Project UP program, which seeks to create digital opportunities and support entrepreneurial growth. King County is one of five regions selected for the 2024 grant cycle, joining Boston, Grand Rapids, Nashville, and South Valley in receiving targeted small business support.

The program's comprehensive approach addresses multiple challenges facing small businesses, including technological limitations, marketing constraints, and financial pressures. By providing a holistic support package, Comcast RISE aims to strengthen local economic ecosystems and provide entrepreneurs with critical resources for sustainable growth.
